RETURN TO WRITTEN WORD INDEX

My father owned a local country-western radio station in Yakima Washington, KUTI. I was always going with Dad to radio station events and news stories. Robert Fuller and James Drury came to town for a fund raiser, they were "Jailed" and locals could donate money to the cause. Note the handcuffs in the photo! I was with Dad , and we went directly to the county jail that day, and I was the first person to bring a "cash" donation. If I recall, it was a few quarters. James and Robert seemed Bigger Than Life! I was amazed that The Virginian and Cooper Smith were right here in Yakima! My Dad took the photo, and provided me with the radio station letterhead for them to autograph, and the radio news copy. Dad evidently knew these would be things I'd keep. I wish I knew what year it was.

Dean Heinen

The following message was posted privately in Robert Fuller’s Guestbook. It tells the story of when Robert and James Drury of Virginian fame went to Yakima, Washington to help raise money to pay for kidney transplant for a 16 year old boy.

Timing is uncertain but it was post 1963.

Below is the Radio News Copy

Below is the Radio Letterhead with autographs plus a photograph of young Dean with James and Robert. Dean was not the boy who received the kidney transplant
