While this was far from being a big break it certainly as a very nice extra role giving Robert centre stage when he plays the part of a young man presenting flowers to Gale Robbins after she performs the song “It’s Harry I’m Going To Marry”
The Affairs Of Dobie Gillis

In this romantic musical comedy starring Debbie Reynolds and Bobby Van Robert is able to display both his acting and dancing skills as a one of the sock- hop dancer and soda shop customer. Also in the movie as an extra is Robert’s friend and Laramie co-star John Smith. The Affairs Of Dobie Gillis was Robert’s final moviw appearance before being drafted into the army.

Meet Me In Las Vegas

Robert returned to the movies, following his stint in the army, going back to his dancing roots. And what a movie to come back in. Meet Me In Las Vegas is an all star musical starring Dan Dailey and Cyd Charisse. Below is a great clip where Robert is clearly visible as one of the dancers in the chorus line.
