“When Cowboys Were King” is a documentary exploring the history of the western. It features many clips from old adn more recent movie westerns. Some very famous western stars are interviewed including Ernest Borgnine, Tom Selleck, Bruce Dern amongst others. Robert makes a brief appearances towards the end of the show and talks about how many westerns were on primetime TV in the 50’s and 60’s.A must for western fans.

“When Cowboys Were King” seems a fitting finale to Robert’s televison career. While he was a very talented actor in a whole range of different genres, he did love acting in westerns and spent many happy hours doing so.Robert retired from acting in 2000 and once said he would only come back for a “great western role”.Robert now lives an idyllic life in retirement, having bought a beautiful ranch in Gainesville, Texas, where he lives with his wife, the talented and beautiful Jennifer Savidge.

Robert was a guest star again in Walker Texas Ranger when it finally ended. He reprised his role of ranger Wade Harper, plus played the part of an old west sheriff. Again his foe was played by the great Marshall Teague who also appeared with Robert in the Walker episode “Last Of A Breed”.
